COVER DESIGN

The visual design supports student immersion in Roman culture while presenting Latin grammar.

The work is divided into two volumes. With its strong narrative appeal, the cover was designed as a journey through the history of the language. I created two maps showing the empire’s extent in each period and included illustrated elements from the text, placed according to their historical timeline.

VOLUME I

The illustration in Volume I narrates the history of the Roman Empire in the centuries before Christ. It begins with the founding of Rome, the myth of Romulus and Remus, the Trojan War, and other key events.

VOLUME II

The illustration in Volume II shows the map of the empire at its greatest extent, dated to the 2nd century.

Volume 1 shows the Roman Empire in the 1st century in green. Volume 2 uses pink for the Western Empire and brown for the Eastern Empire (c. 285 AD).

CONTENT DESIGN

I designed custom illustrations to introduce each chapter, visually highlighting themes from the history of Latin and Ancient Rome to support a clear and engaging educational narrative.

Em todos os inicios de capitulo tem desenhos que tema ver com o conteudo do capitulo

PROCESS

The design process began with content analysis and client conversations, followed by visual research into the events, characters, and places in the book. I explored their artistic representations—studying forms, colors, and symbolism—then sketched ideas by hand before finalizing them as vector illustrations.

LEARNINGS

This project revealed the deep bond between knowledge and teaching. The author, a passionate literature professor, infused decades of classroom experience into the book, grounding it in clarity, care, and purpose. Her love for education and her students inspired me to bring that spirit to life through design.

As an information designer, I used semiotics and symbolism to transform complex history into clear, meaningful visuals. More than decoration, this was about choosing what and how to communicate and balancing precision, depth, and a touch of playfulness to engage graduate students.
